Report: Redskins strong contenders for LB C.J. Mosley

The Baltimore Ravens have publicly stated they want to re-sign linebacker C.J. Mosley this offseason. Coach John Harbaugh mentioned he wouldn’t even entertain the idea of Mosley not being in Baltimore for 2019. Meanwhile, general manager Eric DeCosta said everything was on the table to retain Mosley.

However, it looks as though the Ravens will have far more competition for Mosley’s services in free agency. Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network is reporting the Washington Redskins are strong contenders for Mosley and are actively shopping players in order to free up cap space to make the signing.

Mosley — the five-time Pro Bowl linebacker — is considered one of the top free agents this offseason for good reason. He’s been a high-character player for the Ravens and incredibly productive in his five years in Baltimore. Mosley has started in all by three games over five seasons, combining for 597 tackles, nine interceptions, one interception returned for a touchdown, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, one fumble returned for a touchdown and 8.5 sacks.

If the Ravens were to see Mosley leave in free agency, to the Redskins or any other team, they’d be hard pressed to replace his value this offseason. It would likely make inside linebacker one of their top needs for the 2019 NFL draft as they look to ride their stout defense and a run-heavy offense to success in 2019.
