Redskins sign DE Matt Ioannidis to 3-year, $21.75M extension

The Washington Redskins took a big step in bolstering their defensive line on Thursday, signing defensive end Matt Ioannidis to a three-year, $21.75 million extension.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports there is an extra $3 million in incentives included in the deal.

Ioannidis had just one year left on his prior deal, but the Redskins decided it was time to lock down the 25-year-old lineman for several years to come.

The signing of Ioannidis also assures that Washington will bring back the backbone of a stout defensive front, alongside Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen. The Redskins rode that trio to a No. 7 ranked pass rush with 46 sacks in 2018.
