Report: Redskins sign Simeon Thomas off Seahawks practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks depth in the secondary just got a little bit thinner.

After losing Neiko Thorpe and Ugo Amadi to injuries during the team’s Week 1 victory over Cincinnati, the Seahawks are losing cornerback Simeon Thomas to the Redskins – at least according to a report from NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

Thomas was a candidate to take a roster spot if either Thorpe or Amadi miss significant time. The Seahawks reportedly agreed to bring nickelback Jamar Taylor back as well, although that signing has yet to be made official.

Thomas was originally a sixth round pick by the Browns in 2018, but he spent nearly all of last season on Seattle’s practice squad.

The move leaves the Seahawks with only nine players on their practice squad, and just one defensive back – safety Ryan Neal.

The Seahawks are already trying to remedy that however, reportedly holding a workout for former Steelers cornerback Herb Waters, according to Rapoport.

Waters was a star receiver at Miami from 2012-2015. After going undrafted, he caught on with the Packers and eventually made the transition to defensive back.

He has bounced around practice squads since then, but would give Seattle a lengthy defensive back prospect to replace Thomas on the practice squad.
