Report: Redskins sign former Texans CB Aaron Colvin

Washington is signing former Houston Texans cornerback Aaron Colvin, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans released Colvin on Tuesday after a poor outing against the New Orleans Saints on Monday. When targeted by Drew Brees, Colvin allowed a perfect passer rating (158.3), including seven completions for 106 yards and a score, per Pro Football Reference.

Houston signed Colvin to a four-year $34 million contract in 2017 free agency. They will pay his $7.5 million in 2019 salary as part of the release.

Ultimately, coach Bill O’Brien felt it was of mutual interest to let Colvin go.

“Aaron worked hard for us, was a good teammate, good pro,” O’Brien said Wednesday. “We just felt like it was in the best interest of our team and of Aaron for him to get a fresh start and for us to move in a different direction.”

Colvin will join a Washington secondary that includes CB Josh Norman, S Landon Collins, CB Quinton Dunbar, and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
