Report: Redskins shopping Josh Norman before trade deadline

The Washington Redskins might have veteran cornerback Josh Norman on the trade block.

So says a new report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who includes Norman’s name in a group of big contracts:

Veteran defensive backs with big contracts such as T.J. Carrie of the Browns, Reshad Jones of the Dolphins, Josh Norman of the Redskins and Janoris Jenkins of the Giants are among those being shopped. If they are dealt, it’s unlikely it will be for much given the age and contract.

Not hard to see why here. Norman is 31 years old and has a cap hit of $15.5 million next year on the final year of his contract.

It doesn’t help that Norman has largely been a sour point for the defense this year, earning a 48.8 grade at Pro Football Focus.

With the Redskins looking at a lost season and building for the future once more, merely unloading Norman’s contract would be a gain enough without worrying about the return.

The Redskins have until Tuesday’s trade deadline to get a deal done.
