Report: Redskins RB Adrian Peterson will be inactive vs. Eagles

It’s all about Derrius Guice for the Washington Redskins.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Redskins won’t activate veteran running back Adrian Peterson for the team’s Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

This move was foreshadowed earlier in the week by head coach Jay Gruden’s comments on Guice.

“We feel like he can be a first, second and even a third down back,” Gruden said, per Rapoport and Garafolo. “I think the offense, carries wise, will probably go through him, pretty much.”

Guice is on the way back after his torn ACL last preseason, but that won’t stop the Redskins from turning to him in a key NFC East matchup to start the season.

As for Peterson, this one comes as a surprise after his 1,000-yard campaign last year resulted in an extension. The fallout if he’s truly inactive will be worth watching in the coming hours and days.
