Report: Redskins confident Colt McCoy can be the guy at QB; Nick Foles loses an option in FA

With Nick Foles hitting free agency in two weeks, the Washington Redskins were linked as a possible option for the Eagles quarterback with Alex Smith likely to miss the 2019 season. Now according to Ian Rapoport, Foles has one less option to work with, as the Redskins believe Colt McCoy can be the guy in 2019, choosing not to throw big money at a quarterback.

Last month, Redskins personnel executive Doug Williams told SiriusXM NFL Radio that the franchise would look to provide competition for McCoy at the quarterback position.

“It’s our job in the personnel department to find somebody who can play,” Williams said. “Thank God we have Colt coming back from an injury. We’ve just got to find somebody to mix in there, and we know we’ve got to have that guy, but we’ve built around whoever it is. I think that’s the most important thing.”

Now it looks like that competition won’t be coming from a big named veteran with knowledge of the NFC East. For Foles, it leaves the Jaguars, Dolphins or a mystery team that could surface.
