Report: Recently released WR Dontrelle Inman visiting Jets

Fresh off his release from the New England Patriots, Dontrelle Inman is taking free agent visits.

Inman, who was granted his release following Josh Gordon’s reinstatement, is meeting with the Jets, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Inman visited the Lions on Monday and was expected to sign with Detroit, given that they had just seen him first-hand in joint-practices last week. However, the Lions opted to sign second-year wideout Jordan Lasley Tuesday morning.

Since being traded to the Bears in 2017, Inman has been a bit of a journeyman. He found his niche with Phillip Rivers and the Chargers but has bounced around since then. For his career, Inman has 140 receptions for 1,890 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He is three years removed from the best season of his career when he caught 58 passes for 810 yards and four touchdowns with the Chargers.

While the Jets have three wide receiver positions already set, there are three up for grabs. Deontay Burnett, Josh Bellamy and Greg Dortch look like locks to make the roster, but Inman could certainly beat out Deonte Thompson, Charone Peake and Tim White.

At 6-foot-3, Inman would provide size the Jets are lacking. He also has extensive reps working out of the slot, giving New York some much-needed versatility in its wide receiver room.

Inman has three catches for 40 yards over the course of two preseason games.
