Report: Ravens won’t use franchise tag on LB C.J. Mosley

The Baltimore Ravens are not going to give linebacker C.J. Mosley the franchise tag this offseason.

Mosley is the Ravens’ top pending free agent this offseason, and not using the franchise tag on him puts a countdown on the situation. On March 13 at 4 p.m. ET, Mosley will officially hit the open market, where he’s likely going to receive a ton of attention from other teams.

Baltimore has allowed their pending free agents to hit the market before in order to set their actual value. It could be that the Ravens are waiting for offers to come in from other teams before they actually know how much Mosley is going to cost. Or Mosley could simply be asking for too much money and Baltimore is willing to let him walk.

Either way, this story is far from finished. The Ravens have made it clear on multiple occasions they want to lock Mosley up on a long-term contract. Both general manager Eric DeCosta and coach John Harbaugh have made public statements saying so. But it appears Baltimore is going to have to compete with the highest bidder to make it happen.
