Report: Ravens to get mid-round pick in Joe Flacco trade

The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a deal with the Denver Broncos to trade quarterback Joe Flacco. In return, the Ravens will reportedly get a mid-round selection back from Denver.

The Broncos have nine selections in the 2019 NFL draft. Denver has an additional fourth-round selection thanks to their trade of wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Houston Texans. While the exact terms of the deal haven’t been reported, the Broncos’ extra fourth-round pick would be fitting.

Denver will likely have to rework Flacco’s deal as he’ll carry an $18.5 million cap hit for 2019, $20.25 million cap hit in 2020 and $24.25 million cap hit in 2021. Given Baltimore made it known they’d look to trade Flacco this offseason or were likely going to have to cut him outright, a mid-round selection feels fair in return.

The trade will also send Flacco to a team he has a good shot at success with, in a fitting sendoff to their former franchise quarterback. The Broncos still have a solid defense and weapons on offense, something Flacco has shown he can win with previously.

The specific selection will be known later on when the trade can become official on March 13 — when the league year starts.
