Report: Ravens to cut S Tony Jefferson

The Baltimore Ravens are set to cut safety Tony Jefferson, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The move was expected after the Ravens signed safety Chuck Clark to a three-year extension earlier in the week.

Jefferson had been looked at as a potential salary-cap casualty this offseason, with $7 million being freed up by cutting him, according to Over The Cap. But with Clark playing well in his stead after Jefferson’s season-ending knee injury in Week 5, it became a matter of when and not if this offseason.

After playing four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Jefferson signed a four-year, $34 million contract with the Ravens prior to the 2017 season. Through three seasons in Baltimore, Jefferson started all 35 games he was active for, posting two interceptions, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 174 total tackles.
