Report: Ravens looked to move up to 2nd round for OL Cody Ford

The Baltimore Ravens had well-defined needs coming into the 2019 NFL draft. With an offensive scheme that will lean on the run this year, one of the bigger needs was at the interior offensive line.

However, six offensive linemen went in the first round and Baltimore took an even bigger need, wide receiver, with their 25th overall pick. Having no second-round picks thanks to last year’s trade up to select quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Ravens would ultimately have to wait for talent to fall to them. But that didn’t stop Baltimore from trying to grab a player they liked.

According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, the Ravens attempted to trade back into the second round to take offensive lineman Cody Ford, though a deal never came together.

Ford would be selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 38th pick in the draft, just six spots into the second round. Had Baltimore tried to move up, the latest they could have gotten Ford would have been the 37th overall pick.

According to the draft trade value chart, that would have equated to 530 points. Both of the Ravens’ original third-round picks only totaled to 257 points. Realistically, Baltimore might have had to offer a future second-round selection to make the move.

Instead, the Ravens would sit tight, selecting Louisiana Tech pass rusher Jaylon Ferguson. Baltimore would later move up in the third round to grab Notre Dame wide receiver Miles Boykin.
