Report: Ravens increase offer to C.J. Mosley but still trail Jets

The Baltimore Ravens are looking to re-sign linebacker C.J. Mosley this offseason. But by allowing him to hit free agency, they have likely allowed his value to grow quite a bit beyond what they were expecting.

With a four-year, $54 million deal going to LB Kwon Alexander from the San Francisco 49ers, Mosley is suddenly looking at a market that could pay him around $15 million to $16 million per season. With attention still coming from the New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns, Mosley is considered one of the top free agents remaining.

Because of all that, the Ravens have upped their offer to Mosley a bit, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, but that offer still remains below that of the Jets.

Given how the market is solidifying around Mosley, not at least matching the other offers could backfire on the Ravens. Seeing Mosley leave would be another big blow to Baltimore’s top-rated defense from last season, which has already lost safety Eric Weddle and will lose linebacker Terrell Suggs after free agency begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

However, if the Ravens can re-sign Mosley for less than others are offering, it would be a huge win for them to retain a player they have publicly talked about wanting to re-sign.
