Report: Ravens sign G Marshal Yanda to 1-year extension through 2020

There was some fear Baltimore Ravens guard Marshal Yanda would retire this offseason. Even though Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he expected Yanda back with the team this offseason, it was a concern for a Baltimore offense that is expected to lean heavily on the run in 2019.

The Ravens and Yanda quashed that speculation with a one-year contract extension. Yanda is now signed through the 2020 season with Baltimore, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s a great move for the Ravens. They get to keep a Pro Bowl guard on the roster for the next two years. That gives them some time to either develop someone currently on the roster or select a prospect in the 2019 NFL draft to be Yanda’s heir.

Yanda has been one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL when healthy. However, he has missed games in recent years. Yanda played only two games in 2017 before going on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Last offseason, Yanda was recovering from shoulder surgery. At an Ed Block Courage Award event, Yanda told The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec he was happy not to be rehabbing from any injuries.
