Report: Ravens exercise CB Brandon Carr’s 2019 roster option

The Baltimore Ravens have exercised their 2019 option on cornerback Brandon Carr.

According to Over The Cap, the Ravens had until tomorrow to either exercise the option or cut Carr. By exercising the option, Baltimore will pay Carr a $1.5 million bonus, bringing his 2019 cap hit to $7 million.

At the NFL scouting combine, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta spoke highly of Carr and said he expected the cornerback to remain on the roster. That further put into doubt the status of fellow cornerback Jimmy Smith, who has a $15.8 million cap hit for the 2019 season.

Carr has been the model of consistency for Baltimore since signing as a free agent in 2017. He’s played all 33 possible games over two seasons, with six interceptions, 23 pass deflections and 106 combined tackles.

Carr is signed through the 2020 season. According to Over The Cap, the Ravens will have the same roster option in 2020 on Carr, with the same $7 million cap hit. However, if he’s cut next season before his 2020 roster option is exercised, Baltimore will only have $1 million dead money and regain $6 million in cap space.
