Report: Ravens DL coach Joe Cullen to join Jags as their DC

Urban Meyer was named the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach last week and has been working hard to get his staff together. He made significant progress on that Thursday.

Per ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jamison Hensley, Baltimore Ravens defensive line coach, Joe Cullen, will be the Jags’ new defensive coordinator under Meyer. It will also present Cullen with the chance to return to an organization he once worked for in the past as Jack Del Rio’s defensive line coach (2010-12).

Cullen spent the past five years as the Ravens’ defensive line coach. Before that, he made stops in Detroit (2006-08), Jacksonville, Cleveland (2013), and Tampa (2014-15) where he had the same coaching role.

During Cullen’s five years with Baltimore, they were ranked seventh, twelfth, first, fourth, and seventh in total defense. He aided the unit by developing defensive lineman Michael Pierce, Brandon Williams, and Timmy Jernigan and helped them in becoming a strong unit against the rush, too.

Cullen could have some of Meyer’s college assistants working under him in Charlie Strong and Chris Ash, who are expected to land jobs on the Jags’ staff as defensive assistants, too. Texans defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver will interview (or already has), too, and could be joining the staff after being a graduate assistant under Meyer in 2010.
