Report: Ravens cut S Eric Weddle

The Baltimore Ravens are moving and shaking with the start of the new league year coming next week. On Tuesday, the Ravens cut safety Eric Weddle.

It was one of the potential salary cap cuts I had pointed out at the end of the 2018 season. Weddle’s $8.25 million cap hit for 2019 was far too high for the 34-year-old safety. His release creates $1.75 million in dead money, according to Over The Cap.

Weddle had a solid three years in Baltimore, playing in all 48 regular-season games and one playoff game. Weddle also saw the highest production of his career, nabbing 10 interceptions, including returning one for a touchdown in 2017.

With a deep free agent class at safety, there’s a possibility the Ravens could try to re-sign Weddle at a better price tag. Or Baltimore could try to upgrade the position through free agency or the draft.
