Report: Rams to open 2019 season on road vs. Panthers

The Los Angeles Rams will begin the 2019 season on the road. According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Carolina Panthers will host the Rams in Week 1.

The Rams are looking to defend their NFC crown after reaching the Super Bowl last season and facing the Panthers isn’t a bad way to start of the campaign. Carolina endured a seriously disappointing campaign in 2018, losing seven straight games at one point in the second half of the season.

Cam Newton underwent shoulder surgery this offseason but could be ready for camp, so there shouldn’t be any real concerns about him missing the season opener.

The last time the Rams and Panthers met was in 2016. Carolina won that game at the Coliseum 13-10 and has defeated the Rams in six of their last seven meetings.

With all of the primetime slots reportedly filled in Week 1, this game will be held on Sunday afternoon sometime. If it’s a 1 p.m. ET start, it’ll work in the Panthers’ favor with the Rams coming all the way from Los Angeles.
