Report: Rams starting QB Jared Goff has broken right thumb, unlikely to play vs. Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals could be facing a backup quarterback in a critical Week 17 game to determine whether they make the playoffs or not. Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback Jared Goff has suffered a broken right thumb, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and SI.com’s Mike Silver.

He suffered the injury in the Rams’ 20-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It was dislocated but he had it put back into place to finish the game.

His status for the Rams’ Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals at home is now up in the air.

The Rams’ backup quarterback is John Wolford. He has never played in an NFL game yet.

The Cardinals must win on Sunday to make the playoffs. A loss will eliminate them.

They are 2-1 this season facing backup quarterbacks. They defeated Andy Dalton and Joe Flacco. They lost to C.J. Beathard on Saturday.

The Cardinals will have no excuses on Sunday. It is set up for them. They must win and could face a backup. After laying an egg against the 49ers, they must recover and bring their A game.

Update:

Goff is unlikely to play vs. the Cardinals and likely will need surgery.
