Report: Rams shuffle Sean McVay’s staff, make Shane Waldron QBs coach

The Los Angeles Rams saw their coaching staff broken apart this offseason after the Bengals hired Zac Taylor to be their next head coach. It’s the second straight year Sean McVay has lost assistants to higher positions with other teams, like Greg Olson becoming the Raiders’ offensive coordinator and Matt LaFleur taking the same job with the Titans.

All these departures have led to some shuffling for McVay’s staff. Wade Phillips’ son, Wes, is coming aboard as the Rams’ tight ends coach, which relieves Shane Waldron of those duties. Waldron will remain the pass game coordinator, while also taking over for Taylor as the quarterbacks coach, according to Albert Breer of the MMQB.

Additionally, Jedd Fisch, whom the Rams hired to be an offensive assistant last year, is being promoted to assistant offensive coordinator. He formerly worked as UCLA’s offensive coordinator in 2017.

Vincent Bonsignore of The Athletic also reported that Fisch and Waldron will be elevated to higher positions.
