Report: Rams sent Shane Waldron to work out Oklahoma State RB before draft

After trading out of the first round, the Los Angeles Rams still have an abundance of quality options heading into Day 2 of the draft. There are starting-caliber players available at safety, edge rusher, on the offensive and defensive lines, as well as at cornerback.

Yet, the Rams might be looking at another position on Friday night. They’ve shown interest in several running backs, headlined by Memphis’ Darrell Henderson, bringing in several for pre-draft visits.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, they’re looking closely at Oklahoma State’s Justice Hill. The Rams sent Shane Waldron, their pass game coordinator and QBs coach, to work out Hill this week.

The Rams were also in attendance for his pro day, so it’s becoming easier to connect the dots between L.A. and Hill. They obviously don’t have a pressing need at running back with Todd Gurley entrenched as the starter, but perhaps his lingering knee issue will cause them to grab a future replacement.

Hill is a smaller back at 5-foot-10, 198 pounds, but he’s explosive and has breakaway speed, running a 4.4 40-yard dash at the combine. He’d be a good complementary back, but with Malcolm Brown and John Kelly already on the roster, do the Rams really need to spend a premium pick on a running back? Probably not.
