Report: Rams Calling Teams About Trading Matthew Stafford

The Rams have reportedly been seeking offers for quarterback Matthew Stafford, according to Michael Lombardi of The Daily Coach.

Lombardi appeared on The Pat McAfee Show Thursday and shared that Stafford is “fully available,” saying that Los Angeles would “love to trade him.” But, per Lombardi, the franchise cannot move him due to his financial guarantees.

“He [Stafford] has 57 million guaranteed… When I say guaranteed, that is for skill and injury so it does not matter if he can’t play or not,” Lombardi said. “… He has $57 million coming to him no matter what. I don’t really want to hear the b------- of we’re [Rams] are no trying to trade him, yes you are. You’ve called teams, I know this.”

Stafford and Los Angeles agreed to a four-year, $160 million extension last offseason after the Rams won the Super Bowl. The deal connected both parties together through the 2026 season, despite the Rams signal caller being limited to nine games last year due to injuries.

In January, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Rams plan to pick up Stafford’s option bonus in 2023 and assure his salary for the ’24 season. Los Angeles is obligated to decide on Stafford by the third day of the ’23 league year, which starts on March 15.
