Rams among Eric Weddle’s final five suitors, hosting safety for visit

The Los Angeles Rams are in the market for a safety with Lamarcus Joyner’s contract expiring next week and one of the top players available is Eric Weddle. The former Baltimore Ravens and Chargers safety was released this week and is in high demand already.

According to NFL Network, Weddle has 11 offers on the table and has narrowed it down to five teams. The Rams are among his top five potential suitors and will host him for a visit.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network also reports the Rams are going to be big players in the safety market next week. There are several big-name players on track to become available, including Earl Thomas, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Adrian Amos, among others.

Weddle, 34, was Pro Football Focus’ 10th-best safety in the NFL last season despite failing to come down with an interception. He’s nearing the end of the career and could chase a title with a loaded team like the Rams.

Having spent the majority of his career with the Chargers, he has ties to Southern California, too. This is a pairing that makes all the sense in the world, potentially giving the Rams two talented safeties in Weddle and John Johnson III.

Weddle is a two-time first-team All-Pro and a six-time Pro Bowler, making the playoffs five times.
