Report: Raiders will introduce Jon Gruden as coach on Tuesday

Jon Gruden will be introduced as the Raiders' next head coach on Tuesday, per multiple reports.

Steve Corkran first reported the news, saying the Raiders are planning a "splashy" press conference for the former Oakland head coach.

"I'm in Kansas City freezing my a-- off. I have not heard that," Gruden told the Bay Area News Group's Jerry McDonald over the phone Friday. "I expect to hear something soon. I'm getting ready to go meet (Titans defensive coordinator) Dick LeBeau."

Gruden is in Kansas City to call Saturday's AFC wild-card game between the Chiefs and Titans for ESPN.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Gruden's contract is for 10 years _ the longest coaching contract in history _ and worth around $100 million.

A process that began with the sudden firing of Jack Del Rio on New Year's Eve will culminate with Gruden's return to the team he began his head-coaching career with.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gruden's coordinators are already in place.

The move comes 20 years after he was hired by late owner Al Davis as the NFL's youngest head coach at age 34. After four seasons, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for whom he won a Super Bowl against the Raiders and coached until fired after seven seasons.

Gruden has been the analyst for ESPN's Monday Night Football since 2009 and is now tasked with turning around a Raiders team that vastly underachieved in 2017.

The Raiders fell to 6-10 in 2017 after going 12-4 and earning a playoff berth for the first time since 2002 in 2016.

After a season-ending loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, owner Mark Davis fired Del Rio and seized the opportunity to bring back Gruden, who was also contacted when the Raiders hired Dennis Allen in 2012 and Del Rio in 2014.

Gruden's salary is believed to be in the range of $10 million per year, twice what Del Rio was making and a figure that would make him the NFL's highest paid coach.

Gruden replaced Joe Bugel after a 4-12 season in 1998 and was 38-26 in four seasons, including AFC West titles in 2000 and 2001. He was 2-2 in the postseason, losing in the AFC title game following the 2000 season and the divisional round in 2001.

Since Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay in February of 2002, the Raiders have had nine head coaches, with Del Rio lasting the longest at three seasons. Gruden is the 21st different coach in franchise history and the second man to do it twice, joining Art Shell (1989-94) and 2006.
