Report: Raiders trying to trade up for QB in 2024 NFL Draft

One of the NFL’s worst-kept secrets is that the Raiders want to move up in the 2024 NFL Draft. Sitting at pick No. 13, it is unlikely that any of the top four quarterbacks will be on the board when they are on the clock.

The news that the Raiders have been in discussions about moving up in Round 1 was first reported by Vic Tafur of The Athletic earlier this week. Here is a snippet of what he had to say about the news:

The 2024 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the Las Vegas Raiders have been exploring trading up in the first round, according to league and team sources. They could theoretically move up for a player at any position, but dishing out the kind of capital it would require would only make sense if it were for a quarterback.

The ideal quarterback for the Raiders would be Jayden Daniels, who Antonio Pierce happens to know well from their days at Arizona State. But coming out of the NFL Combine, it appears more likely that Daniels will be going to the Commanders at pick No. 2.

Would the Raiders still be willing to give up a ton of future capital to go get Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Or is Daniels (and Caleb Williams) the only quarterback they view that is worth trading up for? All that remains to be seen, but it’s clear the Raiders are not going to sit on their hands when it comes to finding their next franchise QB.
