Report: Raiders, Trent Brown agree on contract making him highest paid OL in history

The New England Patriots are losing Trent Brown in free agency to the Oakland Raiders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Brown will be the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history after agreeing to terms on a contract with Oakland.

The deal will not be official until March 13 at 4 p.m. when the 2019 league year begins.

Brown spent just one season with the Patriots after joining the team by trade. He’d spent time on both sides of the offensive line with the San Francisco 49ers, but the Patriots started him at left tackle for the entirety of the 2018 season, when New England won a Super Bowl.

The move seemed to pleased quarterback Derek Carr, who reacted to the impending signing on Twitter on Monday.

Surely, quarterback Tom Brady isn’t feeling as jubilant. But the cupboard isn’t bare for New England. They drafted offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn in the first round in 2018. He is likely to take over for Brown at left tackle in 2019, so long as he’s fully healed from an Achilles injury, which took him out of the entire 2018 season.
