Raiders trade CB Gareon Conley to Texans for 2020 3rd-round pick

The Oakland Raiders have made another move, trading away another former first-round pick in cornerback Gareon Conley. They sent Conley to the Houston Texans for a third-round pick.

According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, the Raiders will receive a future third-round pick from the Texans in exchange for the 2017 first-round pick.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed the trade, reporting that the pick going back to Oakland is the 2020 third-rounder Houston acquired in the Jadeveon Clowney deal.

There were reports that the team considered moving Conley at the trade deadline in 2018 but ultimately decided to hold onto the Ohio State cornerback. Conley went on to have a fantastic second half of the season, as he quickly became one of the better cornerbacks in the league.

But Sunday was arguably Conley’s worst game as a pro. The Packers picked on him all day and exposed him in coverage. It’s clear that he has been unable to return to the level of play we saw in 2018, and the team decided to move on. Conley is Pro Football Focus’ 82nd-ranked cornerback, struggling in both the pass and run game.

Now that the team has added another draft pick, expect the Raiders to continue to search for defensive end and linebacker help before the trade deadline next week.
