REPORT: Raiders to trade OG Kelechi Osemele to Jets

The Raiders aren’t done trading after all. After making the Antonio Brown trade late on Saturday night, Oakland has executed another trade. This time, they are the team trading away the Pro Bowl player.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have agreed to send guard Kelechi Osemele to the New York Jets once the league year starts on Wednesday.

Osemele was signed by the Raiders after the 2015 season and has since started 42 games for Oakland. According to Jerry McDonald, the Raiders will receive pick No.141 but will send away pick No.198.

The benefits for the move for the Raiders is that it will free up more than $10 million in cap space for the Raiders while costing them zero in dead money. Osemele’s play has dipped in recent seasons and with the Raiders, finishing as Pro Football Focus’ 61st-ranked guard. At the age of 29, Osemele already appears to be in decline.

Despite the cap savings, Oakland will need to find a new left guard for next season. Expect them to try to address the need in free agency as well as in the draft.
