Report: Raiders release RB Doug Martin

In a surprise move, the Raiders have released running back Doug Martin, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Media.

Conventional wisdom was that Martin’s spot on the roster was safe. Martin, a seven-year veteran, was brought to the Raiders by coach Jon Gruden last season and led the team in rushing in 2018.

But young running backs Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington are also on the roster and have shown their ability. This move relieves a crowded backfield that will be clamoring for carries behind rookie running back Josh Jacobs.
