REPORT: Raiders lose DB coach Derrick Ansley to Tennessee

The Raiders are suddenly in need of a defensive back coach as Derrick Ansley has left for the University of Tennesee, according to Patrick Brown of GoVols247. Ansley was hired by Gruden after for the 2018 season to coach the defensive backs. Prior to his NFL stint, Ansley spent five seasons at Alabama and previously coached at Tennessee and Kentucky.

Ansley had a nice season with the Raiders last season, helping Gareon Conley and Karl Joseph play the best football of their careers. Ansley is rumored to be in considered a candidate to be Tennesee’s defensive coordinator.

In the meantime, the Raiders will be in search of a new defensive backs coach. Could Charles Woodson, who just left ESPN, be a potential candidate? That would make some sense. However, it’s more likely the team will promote from within rather than looking outside of the building. We will continue to monitor this story as more information becomes available.
