Report: Raiders LB Aldon Smith met with Roger Goodell about reinstatement

ALAMEDA, Calif. _ Suspended linebacker Aldon Smith met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Friday in hopes of being reinstated, NFL Media reported Friday. Smith was originally suspended on Nov. 17, 2015 for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

The banishment was for a minimum of one year, and contingent upon Smith meeting a number of requirements that included a meeting with the commissioner.

Smith first applied for reinstatement in early October, giving the NFL 60 days to consider his application. Three games remain in the regular-season for the Raiders, who are bidding for their first postseason birth since 2002.

The NFL would notify Smith and the Raiders were he to be reinstated, and he would be immediately eligible to play, contingent on his conditioning and readiness. A ruling could come at any time, or not at all, depending on if Goodell believes Smith has taken responsibility for his actions and is deserving of another chance.
