REPORT: Raiders expected to pass on a quarterback in Round 1

With just over a week to go until the NFL Draft, we are officially in “lying” season. You will see a ton of unconfirmed rumors over the next few days as teams try to create news and distractions around specific prospects.

However, not everything that will be said from now until the draft will be a lie. There will be bits and pieces of news that wind up being true.

One recent report by Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal says that the possibility of the Raiders drafting a quarterback appears “remote at best.” Instead, Gehlken believes the team will likely target Quinnen Williams or Devin White with their top selection and to potentially target a quarterback on the third day of the draft.

With Kyler Murray likely landing in Arizona, the Raiders would have the choice between Dwayne Haskins or Drew Lock at No. 4. But neither passer offers a significant upgrade over Derek Carr, leaving Oakland to look elsewhere with their top pick.

If Murray is off the board, it’s hard to argue with the Raiders’ strategy. They look to still be in the rebuilding stage and are looking to acquire as much talent as possible. Using all three of their first round picks to rebuild the defense and add more weapons on offense seems like the right plan for Oakland at this point in time.
