Report: QB Cam Newton, CB Stephon Gilmore likely to return for Week 6

The New England Patriots could see two of their biggest stars return from the Reserve/COVID-19 list for Week 6. Quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore are likely to play against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Michael Giardi.

Newton’s father said he is asymptomatic in a recent interview. If that holds true, he is already eligible to return, pending approval of a team doctor. Gilmore posted to Instagram on Monday saying he’s ready to return. He is also asymptotic, per NFL Network. He can return after 10 days away from the team, which would put him on the practice field on Friday, pending team doctor’s approval.

Because the NFL elected to move the Patriots-Broncos game from Week 5 to Week 6, Newton would miss just one game and Gilmore would miss zero action.
