Report: Punter Marquette King to visit Texans

The Houston Texans will work out former Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos punter Marquette King.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the former AFC South champions from last year will bring in the 2014 punting yards leader for a workout.

The 30-year-old played four games in 2018 with the Denver Broncos, before being released with an injury settlement. The former second-team All-Pro is undoubtedly talented, but having missed his rookie year due to an injury, and with 2018 ending the way it did, one of Houston’s main concerns will be his fitness.

Should the Texans sign King, it would be somewhat fitting that they, ignoring this last year with Trevor Daniel as their punter, replace former Raiders punter Shane Lechler with the man who replaced him in Oakland.

Bringing in competition for Daniel isn’t a surprise when you consider that he ranked 31st in the NFL in 2018 in yards per punt with 43.7, but did show plenty of flashes of potential as the season went on.

If King can show the form that made him one of the leagues best back from his time in Oakland, the Texans may well look to bring him in at least for training camp to battle with Daniel.
