Report: Potential Eagles free agent target Gerald McCoy expected to return to Bucs in 2019

One potential free agent target for the Philadelphia Eagles appears to be staying put. Per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, star defensive tackle, Gerald McCoy, is expected to return to the Bucs for a 10th NFL season at a salary of $13 million.

Per Stroud:

Not much will change for the Bucs with McCoy, who will return for his 10th straight season. He also will earn $13 million — which eats up nearly 18 percent of the money spent on the defense — even though his 2019 salary was not guaranteed.

Bucs coach Bruce Arians and his staff have evaluated McCoy’s performance and believe he will be a good fit in the 3-4 scheme under defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

McCoy, who started 14 games last season and recorded six sacks, is not guaranteed his salary, but new head coach Bruce Arians and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles feel McCoy will fit well in the 3-4 look. For the Eagles, it could be a player off the board that could have matched up nicely with Fletcher Cox along the defensive line.
