Report: Phillip Dorsett re-signing with Patriots on prove-it deal

Receiver Phillip Dorsett is re-signing with the New England Patriots on a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Dorsett joined the Patriots in a trade before the 2017 season in a swap with the Indianapolis Colts that included quarterback Jacoby Brissett. In 2018, Dorsett was given the chance to step up and serve as one of the team’s top wideouts, with Julian Edelman serving a suspension. However, Dorsett struggled, and the Patriots brought in Josh Gordon to take on a major role.

Dorsett finished the season with 32 receptions fro 290 yards and three touchdowns. At the end of the season, when Gordon returned on suspension, Dorsett had a three-game run with a touchdown that spanned into the postseason. He’ll surely hope to keep those scores coming in 2019, as his one-year deal will allow him to cash in next offseason, if all goes well.
