Report: Philadelphia 76ers have shown interest in trade for Lonzo Ball

The list of teams interested in Lonzo Ball continues to grow with the latest addition being one of the premier teams in the league. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Tuesday night that Lonzo Ball was one of the names the Philadelphia 76ers are considering via trade.

The original Wojnarowski report indicated the Sixers were in Kyle Lowry but were hesitant on going all-in on the veteran. Wojnarowski then followed it up with a series of names the team is considering as alternatives in Ball, Norman Powell and George Hill.

Ball’s role with the Sixers isn’t immediately clear as the current starting five in Philadelphia ranks as one of the best in the league based on net rating. If Ball were to move into the starting lineup, it would likely be in place of Seth Curry, the current off-guard to Ben Simmons.

His improvements as a shooter make a pairing next to Ben Simmons viable and would help give the Sixers more spacing around Joel Embiid, who was an MVP candidate before an injury sidelined him in early March.

Of note, the Ball family does have a history with Embiid, namely in LaVar. Back in 2017, Embiid created a stir by saying “[expletive] LaVar Ball” during an Instagram Live. As he always does, LaVar responded aggressively.

Eventually, Embiid squashed the beef but it would create an interesting story if Lonzo ends up teaming up with the big man.
