Report: Pelicans sign JJ Redick to two-year, $26.5 million deal

Veteran sharpshooter JJ Redick has agreed to a two-year, $26.5 million deal with the JJ Redick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Redick last played for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Through 76 games for the Sixers last season, Redick averaged a career-high 18.1 points per game on 44 percent from the field, including 39.7 percent from behind the arc (605 total attempts). He’ll be a welcome addition to the Pelicans, who shot finished the regular season ranked No. 24 in 3-point percentage and No. 21 in 3-point attempts.

However, his arrival could also create a good problem for the Pelicans in the backcourt. New Orleans currently has seven guards under contract, including Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holiday, Josh Hart and E’Twaun Moore. While it’s possible that Redick comes off the bench for the Pelicans, it’s more likely that Ball moves to the second unit.

Obviously that’s not the dream start Ball and his camp were hoping for in New Orleans, but it might be better than having fluctuating starters minutes like he did under Luke Walton in Los Angeles. A consistent role will be key for Ball going forward, even if it’s a backup role.
