Report: Pelicans not actively pursuing Al Horford as free agency nears

Though the New Orleans Pelicans were considered to be a potential landing spot for versatile forward-center Al Horford, on the eve of free agency, the New York Times’ Marc Stein reported that New Orleans isn’t actively pursuing Horford. While he would be a fit on and off the court, the 33-year-old’s desire for a four-year deal dampens the Pelicans’ interest in signing him.

With the Boston Celtics planning to sign Kemba Walker, Horford will no longer be a member of the Celtics; the team will use the cap space from his anticipated departure to sign the floor general.

Still, with no bridges burned in Boston and a three-year stint in which he was well-regarded as a leader and mentor, Al’s time with the Celtics will be remembered fondly. Though Boston is looking forward to being led into a new era by All-NBA point guard Kemba Walker, Horford’s time with the Celtics has come to an unexpected and bittersweet end.
