Report: Patriots work out CFL cornerback, a converted QB

The New England Patriots hosted cornerback Tre Roberson for a free agent workout, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Roberson moved to cornerback after going pro. in 2016 At Indiana and Indiana State, he played quarterback, though he struggled with accuracy, likely the reason why he moved to defense in the NFL. That said, he managed 41 touchdowns (30 passing and 11 rushing) in 2014, his first season after transferring from Indiana to Indiana State.

Roberson was drawing interest from 10 NFL teams in November after logging seven interceptions with Calgary during last season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Roberson started his career with the Minnesota Vikings in 2016 and 2017, but has since been in the CFL.

The Patriots depth chart at cornerback is stacked from top to bottom, with Stephon Gilmore, Jason McCourty, J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones and Joejuan Willians. But perhaps New England is interested in seeing what Roberson can do in training camp.
