Report: Patriots will seriously consider trading up for TE Noah Fant

The New England Patriots may move up the draft board to land a game-changing pass-catcher. But it’s not a receiver that they’re circled.

The Patriots will “seriously consider” trading up for Iowa tight end Noah Fant on Thursday night during the first-round, according to Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline.

In 2018, Fant had 39 catches for 519 yards and seven touchdowns. He did that in an offense that rarely threw the ball. He was also in the same offense as tight end T.J. Hockenson, a potential top 10 pick in 2019.

The Patriots’ tight end position is in a downswing following the retirement of Rob Gronkowski, one of the best tight ends every to play the game. They also cut their backup tight end Dwayne Allen. In the wake of those moves, the Patriots signed Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Matt LaCosse. But they seem to feel they need to add more talent at that position.
