Report: Patriots trade WR Demaryius Thomas to Jets

The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to the New York Jets. New England will receive a 2021 sixth-round pick as compensation for the veteran.

Thomas’ trade comes after the Patriots signed receiver Antonio Brown on Monday. He brings tremendous past production, with 104 receptions, 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2018, but he also brings a history of volatile behavior, most recently yelling at Raiders general manager Mike Mayock and demanding his release, which Oakland granted.

With Brown in the building, Thomas figured to sink further down the depth chart behind Brown, Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and Phillip Dorsett. The Patriots offense seemed mighty capable during their 33-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, even before Brown’s arrival. Thomas was inactive for that game with a hamstring injury.

The Patriots signed Thomas to a free agent contract in April. He was released during roster cutdowns but re-signed shortly after.
