Report: Patriots trading for Bills center Russell Bodine

The New England Patriots are trading for Buffalo Bills center Rusell Bodine, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Patriots will send the Bills a 2020 sixth-round pick in exchange, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

With the acquisition of Bodine, the Patriots have made three trades for offensive linemen this week, including deals for tackle Korey Cunningham and guard Jermaine Eluemunor. It’s clear New England wasn’t content with their offensive line depth after losing David Andrews to illness and Jared Veldheer and Brian Schwenke to retirement.

In Bodine, the Patriots get the most accomplished offensive lineman of their three acquisitions. He is a player who has proven capable of starting at center. He has stated 74 games over his five-year career, missing just six games in 2018 due to a broken leg.

Bodine joins an offensive line in flux after Andrews’ diagnosis of blood clots, which might jeopardize his 2019 season. New England may be looking to Bodine to provide competition for Ted Karras, who was the next man up behind Andrews.
