Sources: Patriots retaining WR Gunner Olszewski, trading CB Keion Crossen to Texans

The New England Patriots are trading cornerback and special teams contributor Keion Crossen to the Houston Texans, a source told Patriots Wire on Saturday. With Crossen on the move, receiver and special teams standout Gunner Olszewski, who was previously informed he would be waived, is sticking with the Patriots, per a source.

The wild series of events was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Crossen seemed to have solidified his standing with the Patriots during the final preseason game when he logged 12 tackles, one interception and five deflections. When he made the team in 2018 as a rookie and seventh-round draft choice, Crossen was a major contributor on special teams. But he seemed to be growing into a role as a defensive player this offseason.

Olszewski, meanwhile, seems to have made an impression in New England after playing five positions (receiver, punt returner, kick returner, cornerback and safety) during the final preseason game. He is likely to serve as the team’s top returner for the regular season.
