Report: Patriots show interest in trading for TE Tyler Eifert

The New England Patriots have shown interest in trading for Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe. It seems, however, that Eifert’s price on the market is too high for New England to pull the trigger.

That, of course, could change before the deadline at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Eifert is the top tight end on a winless Bengals team, which just demoted their quarterback Andy Dalton. The team announced they’ll start rookie quarterback Ryan Finley, a fourth round pick, in the coming weeks. Cincinnati is clearly in rebuilding mode.

The Patriots, meanwhile, are undefeated but have struggled to generate consistency on offense. Perhaps they’re looking for more targets for Tom Brady.

The Patriots tight end group includes Ben Watson, Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo. Eric Tomlinson is listed as a tight end, but has played largely as a fullback in the Patriots offense to this point. The group has amassed 14 catches for 214 yards and a touchdown through eight games this season.
