Report: Patriots restructure RT Marcus Cannon’s contract

The New England Patriots have restructured veteran right tackle Marcus Cannon’s contract, according to NFL Network’s Michael Silver.

A restructuring of Cannon’s contract will guarantee him $4.5 million in 2019. The Patriots have also added incentives that could boost the total value of Cannon’s contract to $24 million. He is currently signed through 2021.

Cannon has a lot to prove in 2019. New England let backup tackle La’Adrian Waddle walk in free agency, seemingly in hopes that Cannon would stay healthy enough in the near future for Waddle’s departure to be a non-issue.

However, Cannon has not played a full season since becoming the full-time starting left tackle, missing 13 games over the past three seasons. His newly restructured contract may include a per-game roster bonus which may be a way of financially motivating him to stay on the field.
