Report: Patriots releasing OT Jared Veldheer off retired list

The New England Patriots are releasing offensive tackle Jared Veldheer off the reserve/retired list, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Veldheer apparently intends to try to pick up with another team in 2019.

The Patriots seemed interested in rostering Veldheer as a reserve tackle for the 2019 season, but he elected to retire in training camp. New England’s tackle situation looks fairly stable, with Isaiah Wynn, Marcus Cannon and Marshall Newhouse looking healthy. Perhaps because of that stability, the Patriots were willing to let Veldheer look for interest in free agency.

The Patriots were Veldheer’s fourth team during his 10th NFL season. He has played in 118 games and has started 113.
