Report: Patriots release punter Ryan Allen

The New England Patriots have released punter Ryan Allen, according to multiple reports. The release comes after the Patriots traded up to select Stanford punter Jake Bailey in the 2019 NFL Draft. Bailey has been excellent in preseason and training camp.

Allen spent six seasons with the Patriots and won three Super Bowls. His performance in Super Bowl LIII was monumentally important, as the Patriots won the defensive battle of field position against the Rams, 13-3. Allen had five punts for 215 yards, with a long of 53 yards.

Tom Brady addressed the release on Tuesday morning.

“There are a lot of difficult decisions that are made, and Ryan is an incredible player,” Brady said on WEEI. “Still is, and he will get another great opportunity. There’s a lot of turnover in the league from year to year. It is very difficult to see teammates go.”
