New England Patriots offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste is ready to make his debut on the practice field after spending his entire rookie season off the field due to an injury. He is good to go for the Patriots’ offseason program, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
At this point, the Patriots are conducting a virtual offseason, with the team hosting meetings over videoconference. Though Cajuste is physically healthy enough to play, he may not see the field for quite some time. The novel coronavirus pandemic has disrupted on-field work in the NFL.
Cajuste, a 2019 third-round pick, has the potential to develop into a starting tackle, and in 2019, he will be in competition to take over as the team’s third tackle, a position which gets a player snaps if they’re competent.
New England likes using their third tackle to line up as an in-line blocker at the tight end position to help out, generally on running plays. Cajuste will compete against Justin Herron, a rookie sixth-round pick, and Korey Cunningham, a veteran who spent 2019 in New England, to play third tackle behind left tackle Isaiah Wynn and right tackle Marcus Cannon.
