Report: Patriots OC Josh McDaniels won’t get Eagles coaching job

The Philadelphia Eagles will fill their head coaching vacancy with Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni and not New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, according to multiple reports. They were the two finalists for the position.

McDaniels has experience as an offensive coordinator for New England (2005–2008, 2020–present) and the Rams (2011). He was also the head coach for the Denver Broncos (2009–2010). However, Philly went with Sirianni, who will be tasked with sorting a complicated quarterback situation with Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts. Sirianni, 39, has been the Colts’ offensive coordinator since 2018. He previously worked as an assistant for the Chiefs and Chargers organizations.

It seems unlikely that McDaniels will earn head coaching interest around the NFL this offseason after missing out on this gig. He may end up serving as the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator for 2021 after a rough year with quarterback Cam Newton at the helm in 2020.
